My Rant For The Day
According to David Kessler, the former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, over-eating might be due to something altogether more insidious – the combination of fats, sugars and salt used by food manufactures to trigger a ‘bliss’ point in the human brain.
‘It’s time to stop blaming individuals for being overweight or obese,’ says Kessler. ‘The real problem is we’ve created a world where food is always available and that it is designed to make you want more of it. For millions of us, modern food is impossible to resist.’
That is a small clip from an article that I came across today at dailymail.com. Needless to say, after reading the article, I put my head in my hands and stayed in that position for a while. The scene then went to me yelling at my computer screen, my dogs frantically running out of the room and my husband asking why I was yelling at him (must be a force of habit for him). Here’s MY take on what Mr. Kessler had to say –
It is NOT the government’s / food manufacturer’s / restaurant’s fault if you are overweight and unhealthy. It is YOURS and YOURS ALONE! You choose what you eat and and how much you exercise – not THEM! No one makes you eat high fat foods or sit on the couch for 5 hours a night watching TV. You make that decision. Stop passing the blame and take responsibility for your own actions. You choose to be healthy or you choose to be unhealthy. It is your choice and your choice only!!!!!!

I completely agree – as a society it seems like people are wanting to take away personal responsibility… People are responsible for their own actions!
